Psalm 122:6-9 "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. (7) Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces. (8) For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee. (9) Because of the house of the LORD our God I will seek thy good."
Although the word pray, or prayer, is not mentioned many times, we can know
that the Psalms were written as a book of prayers that were to be sung. Prayer
was a very important element in the lives of those who wrote these songs and it
should be a very important element in our lives each day. "Pray for the
peace of Jerusalem." Earlier, I mentioned about the sweet peace and calm
assurance that we receive when we have been actively involved in the worship
that takes place in God's House. We should never take that for granted; for you
see, Satan is constantly trying to find a weak place where he can attack the
Church. God's remedy for that is prayer. We should always pray for our pastor
and those who lead in worship. We should always pray for those who are seated
around us in the House of the Lord. We should always pray for ourselves as we
seek to enter into the presence of the Lord. I've always said that Sunday
morning is Satan's busiest time. He is fervent in his attempts to pull our
minds away from the business of worshiping our Lord. Pray for peace in God's
House. Pray for peace in the town where you live. Pray for peace in our nation.
Pray! Pray! Pray! These things are worth our time spent in lifting them up to
the Lord in prayer.
1 Ere you left your room this morning, Did you think to pray?
In the name of Christ our Savior, Did you sue for loving favor,
As a shield today?
Chorus:
O how praying rests the weary!
Prayer will change the night to day;
So when life seems dark and dreary,
Don't forget to pray.
2 When you met with great temptation, Did you think to pray?
By His dying love and merit, Did you claim the Holy Spirit
As your guide and stay? (Chorus)
3 When your heart was filled with anger, Did you think to pray?
Did you plead for grace, my brother, That you might forgive another
Who had crossed your way? (Chorus)
4 When sore trials came upon you, Did you think to pray?
When your soul was bowed in sorrow, Balm of Gilead did you borrow
At the gates of day? (Chorus)
