Daily Devotion: December 2, 2019

Psalm 125:1-2   "They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. (2)  As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever."

How important is trust? We place our trust in many things. Every time we place the key (push the start button) in our car's ignition, we trust the car will start. That list goes on and on concerning things in which we place our trust. There are other things that we trust will happen without even exerting the energy to express trust. We trust the sun is going to rise every morning. We trust it will set every evening. We trust the four seasons will arrive on time each year. How can we exert this trust without effort? The truth of the matter is that God is faithful. He has promised and He will perform.

Today's Psalm speaks of trusting God: both its importance and its impact on our lives. Be assured God is faithful to all His promises, but for us to have that peace that passes all understanding, we must believe and place confidence in Him. When we feel alone, we must believe that He has promised never to leave us. He is always with us. Sometimes, it is important to just state that fact audibly. God knows it. We know it. But the spirit of loneliness does not always know it. We speak the truth of God and loneliness must go. There are other spirits in the world that attack us and will try to cause our lives to be shipwrecked. We must speak the truth of God in absolute belief and confidence of God's faithfulness. The Scriptures speak of confessing with the mouth and believing in the heart. That salvation (deliverance) comes to us from those thoughts and emotions that attack us, trying to destroy the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When we hold the truth of God in true belief and trust His glorious power, we are as the mountains. We are surrounded by the Word. He is our shield and our help. He defends us and protects us. We can be sure that when we speak the truth of God's Word into emotions that try to destroy us, our God will defend. As you read a promise from God that speaks to your heart, confess it to be absolute truth. Believe the Word of God. Speak the Word of God. Early in Psalm 119, the writer declared that he would hide the Word of God in his heart. Why? So he could pull the "spiritual sword" out of its scabbard and use it as a defense. May we also hide the Word of God in our hearts.

Daily Devotion: Psalm 88:1-4

Psalm 88:1-4  A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:  (2)  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;  (3)  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.  (4)  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength" I've said this before and I will say it again (and probably more times before we get to the end of the Psalms) - I love the Psalms because I can surely identify with them. Most Psalms start in a low place and as the writer expresses his thoughts, the Lord begins to lift him up out of that dry place.  Though this entire Psalm is a fervent cry unto the Lord, the Psalmist tells us specifically in three verses that he cried daily unto the Lord. Just a few Psalms ago, we were reminded that God always hears our prayers. ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
