Psalm 125:2 "As the mountains
are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth
even for ever."
We need protection In many areas of life. People use
protective goggles, work helmets, and gloves. Those who work out in the
elements need protective clothing depending on the temperature. Rails are
placed around areas that are dangerous for falls. An old time Gospel song
expresses, "Hide me, O Thou Rock of Ages." This thought expresses
that we are in need of protective covering for our very souls.
The Psalmist speaks of the mountains round about Jerusalem.
The Lord led His people to this place where the city is surrounded by
mountains. They were able to post guards in high places to notify if an enemy
was approaching the city. The mountains were solid places of protection that
would not be moved. He used this analogy to remind us that our Lord is always round
about us. God spoke to Abram to remind him, "I am thy shield and
reward." (Genesis 15:1)
The LORD is our shield and our hiding place. He invites us
to come under the shadow of His wings where we can find comfort and protection.
Psalm 32:7 tells us, "Thou art my hiding place; thou
shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of
deliverance. Selah." We just recently were reminded in Psaalm
119:114 "Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy
word."
I leave you with this thought this morning. When you feel in
danger, listen for the song of deliverance that our Lord will give you. He will
surround you with His words of comfort, protection, and direction. You can
place your absolute confidence that just as the mountains shall not be removed,
even more, our God shall never remove Himself. Trust Him.
