Psalm 127:3-5 "Lo, children
are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (4)
As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
(5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be
ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate."
Children are an heritage of the LORD. Children are gifts
from God and should be seen and treated as such. These verses are still
speaking to us of the subject in verse one - building our house. What an
awesome responsibility and privilege has been given to raise children.
Scriptures teach us of raising up children. It seems to me that involves
parents being "hands on" with children. They are precious gifts and
should be handled as such.
"As arrows in a mighty man." When these passages
were written, warriors did not go to the local athletic store to buy their
arrows. They made them for themselves. They knew they lives could very well
depend on how straight those arrows would fly. Whether it be for food or for
defense, they depended on their arrows to hit the mark. They would craft them
with great care. God tells us that we are to craft our children with as much,
and even more, care in raising them.
As we raise our children, we are to equip them to be able to
face the struggles of life. We are to equip them to be able to make good
decisions and to be able to recognize, as much as possible, the enemy "in
the gate". That is, we want them to be able to recognize the enemy before
it enters and to speak to it and turn it away.
We need to be much in prayer for our children and all the
children in our society today. There is much that goes up against them.
Today's children are faced with things that we never had to face. They need
"hands-on" raising today so very much, instead of being left to fend
for themselves. May God bless our young people.
