Psalm 135:13   "Thy name, O LORD, endureth for ever; and thy memorial, O LORD, throughout all generations."

This short verse of Scripture holds a very valuable fact for us to hold onto. It is something that we may take for granted. We probably already know it to be a fact. Yet, we may tend to forget the importance of the truth of this verse.

Fact one states the name of the LORD endures for ever. We understand Him to be the eternal God. We understand that the Bible teaches us that He does not change. The writer of this Psalm reminds us of that fact. When He says the name of the LORD endures forever, He speaks more than just to say we remember the name of God. History teaches us of the names of many people, such as Adam, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, Peter, James, John, Paul, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and many many others. These names endure in memory of history, but the men are dead. When the Psalmist says the name of the LORD endures for ever, He is saying our God LIVES and RULES and REIGNS among His the armies of heaven and the inhabitants of earth. That was true when Nebuchadnezzar spoke it and it remains the truth today. The name of the Lord along with all the glory, power, and honor associated with it remains just as true to day as ever. Not only does His name endure, but also the life of all living creatures is secured in the fact that our God is alive and well and doing just fine.

Fact one states that the memorial of the Lord remains throughout all generations. Yes, this does speak to us of the fact that through all the generations from Adam to the present day and for all eternity, the name of the Lord has been and still is remembered. We remember Him in our prayers. We remember Him in our struggles. Hopefully, we remember Him in our triumphs and times of rejoicing. But this speaks of a deeper thought than our remembering the Lord. He remembers us. The thief on the cross asked Jesus to "remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom." Jesus replied, "Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise." His answer to the thief gives us the blessed thought to which we hold as we pray and praise: The Lord always holds us in His memory. He never forgets us. He never ignores us. He never leaves us to ourselves. He holds us and He blesses us in our every need according to His will and purpose for our lives.

As you read today's passage of Scripture, please take a moment to thank God that indeed He is alive and He knows all our needs, struggles, and victories. He remembers you!
