Daily Devotion: January 16, 2020

Psalm 140:1-3   "Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;  (2)  Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.  (3)  They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah."

In the world, there are those who are self-seeking, self-serving, and self-exalting. They seek their own good, even at the expense of others. This is a fact. It's an absolute. We do not like to think on these type things, but at the same time we must be armed and ready for the assault that could come. While armed and ready, we cannot go around on the defensive all the time. That is to our detriment and we rob ourselves of blessings.

David understood that not everyone was walking with him; yet, his greater understanding was in the grand truth that the Almighty God of heaven and earth walked with him. Instead of thinking the battle was only his, he took it too the Lord. How do we do that? How do we come to the place of taking our burdens, our cares, our hurts, our negative emotions to the Lord? Well it sounds simple this morning; yet, it is the truth. We humble ourselves and pray.

Notice the first four words of David in this Psalm: "Deliver me, O LORD." What a simple approach and yet it is the most productive. "Help me Lord." We sometimes want to think we can handle life and even those who may oppose us. We think we can do it on our own. We are tough enough. We are strong enough. We have the right words. We have the ability. But truth be known, we cannot.

Selah... think upon this. It is my opinion that David was not necessarily wanting us to think upon the "enemy"; rather we are to think upon the Great Deliverer!

"Deliver me, O LORD" from all that would take away from my love and devotion unto you. Please Lord do not allow the emotions of others or my own emotions to take away my daily walk of trust with you.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
