Daily Devotion: Psalm 149:4-6

Psalm 149:4-6    "For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.  (5)  Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.  (6)  Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand"

The Lord takes pleasure in His people. Can we truly comprehend the depth of this truth? The Lord takes pleasure in you. When you think about what this word means to you, the rest of today's verses take hold of you. What is the meaning of the rest of the verses? Rejoice!

The word, pleasure, entails the meaning of acceptance. God accepts you. But when we speak of His acceptance, we must understand something had to take place in order for that acceptance to be complete. The action which had to take place was accomplished, not by ourselves, but by the very Son of God, Jesus Christ. Our acceptance with God does not originate with us; rather, it is found in the work of redemption by Christ Jesus. He offered His shed blood to the Father on our behalf. The Father accepted the blood of Jesus as the completed work of redemption. When the Father accepted Christ's blood, He accepted us. Though it was an excrutiating death endured by Jesus, the Father took pleasure in the finished work. Therefore, He takes pleasure in His people through Jesus Christ.

If we truly understand this great truth, there is pure joy in our hearts. The high praises of God can proceed from our hearts before His glorious throne. We praise Him with our hearts and mouths. We hold the twoedged sword in our hands. What is that twoedged sword? The Word of God. We combat the accuser (Satan) by praising our Lord, rejoicing in His work, and filling ourselves with His Word.

Be thankful that the Lord takes pleasure in you.

Daily Devotion: Psalm 88:1-4

Psalm 88:1-4  A Song or Psalm for the sons of Korah, to the chief Musician upon Mahalath Leannoth, Maschil of Heman the Ezrahite. "O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:  (2)  Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;  (3)  For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.  (4)  I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength" I've said this before and I will say it again (and probably more times before we get to the end of the Psalms) - I love the Psalms because I can surely identify with them. Most Psalms start in a low place and as the writer expresses his thoughts, the Lord begins to lift him up out of that dry place.  Though this entire Psalm is a fervent cry unto the Lord, the Psalmist tells us specifically in three verses that he cried daily unto the Lord. Just a few Psalms ago, we were reminded that God always hears our prayers. ...

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...
