Daily Devotion: Mark 14:55-56

Mark 14:55-56    "And the chief priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.  (56)  For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together."

This morning I want us to be reminded that there are two sides to the events taking place in Scripture. One side is seen plainly. The other side is unseen with the human eye, but is very definite. Jesus is standing before the council. They are seeking some kind of witness against Him whereby they can accuse Him. But their ultimate goal is to crucify Jesus. They had no thought of seeking the truth. Jesus had become a nuisance to them and they wanted rid of Him. This is the obvious side and due to our own humanity, we can understand they are envious of Jesus due to the crowds of people that followed Him.

But there is a greater event taking place than that which human eyes can see. There is a wonderful thing being orchestrated by our Heavenly Father, even as it seems the crowd is out of control. We are made privy to this information through the Word of God. Jesus had told the disciples that He would rise again. He had told them why He would need to die. But it was only after the Holy Spirit descended on the day of Pentecost that they would be able to understand the work of God through the death of His Son, Jesus. Let us be reminded this morning that our God is never out of control. There are things that He allows in order to accomplish His determinate will.

"Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:  (23)  Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:  (24)  Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." (Acts 2:22-24)

I love these verses of Scripture that show God working His purpose even through the death of His Son. Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. Jesus came as the Lamb of God to accomplish the ultimate work of redemption through His own blood. He did this that we would receive forgiveness of sin and acceptance with God. We are in His family this morning solely through the finished work of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus our blessed Redeemer.
For our sins, He suffered and bled and died.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
