Daily Devotion: Mark 15:37-38

Mark 15:37-38    "And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.  (38)  And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom."

Though these verses could present a dismal picture for some, they present the blessed assurance for you and me that we have open access to our Heavenly Father. How can I be so positive when these verses present the time when Jesus had just died?  I'm glad you asked.

These verses present the blessed truth of the reason for Jesus coming to this earth. Remember the words of the angel to Joseph?  "But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.  (21)  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:20-21) Why did Jesus leave heaven to come to this earth? Was it not to save His people from their sins? What was the only way that could be accomplished? Remember the sentence of death that was pronounced because of sin? Jesus came to die in our place that we might be saved through His death and the sacrifice of His blood. Jesus died. We are eternally secure through His death. We know it does not end there, but we will save that for another devotional.

"The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom." I won't go into the dimensions of the veil at this time, but I will say that it was physically impossible for any man, group of men, or team of horses to tear the veil in half. Plus the veil was torn from the top to the bottom, which signifies that only our Lord could give open access into the holy of holies. Until that time, only the high priest could go into that place, once a year with a blood sacrifice to make atonement. When Jesus died, presenting His blood to the Father, the final and perfect atonement was made. There was no more need of that earthly place for the priests to enter. Our Great High Priest had entered into the Holiest of Holies with His own blood to make atonement and attain redemption. He did that for which He came to do: He saved His people from our sins.

Yes, I am positive when it comes to the work of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. I pray you can find that perfect peace in knowing that Jesus died for your sins. You have been given access to the very throne of God through Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest. You do not need another man to go between you and the Father. We have One mediator who has gained our access to God. Praise the blessed name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
