Daily Devotion: Joshua 4:9-11

Joshua 4:9-11    "And Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests which bare the ark of the covenant stood: and they are there unto this day.  (10)  For the priests which bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until every thing was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua: and the people hasted and passed over.  (11)  And it came to pass, when all the people were clean passed over, that the ark of the LORD passed over, and the priests, in the presence of the people."

This is a second memorial that was placed. The first one was placed where the people slept the first night in the Promised Land. This second was placed in the middle of the Jordan River at the place where the priests' feet stood while the people crossed the river. So a memorial was placed where the miracle began and another was placed where the miracle ended.

In the book of Revelation, we read several descriptive terms concerning Jesus. I quoted one a few days ago from Revelation chapter 19 where we are told Jesus is Faithful and True. We read in Revelation 1:5 that Jesus Christ "is the faithful witness." And we read in Revelation 1:8,  "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty."

What does this have to do with our text today and how does it apply to us? The stone memorials were placed at "the beginning and the ending of their moving into the Promised Land. They remain a faithful witness. It is safe to believe these stones were the ones referred to by John the Baptist when he told the Pharisees that God could raise up of "these stones" children to Abraham. They stood as a reminder of that "which is" in the Promised Land, of that "which was" before they crossed over, and that "which is to come" concerning all the promises of God.  They stand to remind us of "the Almighty." As we read of these memorials, even if our eyes have never seen them, we are encouraged in the power of the Almighty.  We can be "confident of this one thing: He that has begun a good work in us will perform it to the day of Jesus Christ."

Be certain, God will see you through every situation and circumstance that must be faced. He is Faithful. He is True. He is the Almighty.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
