Daily Devotion: Joshua 10:8-11

Joshua 10:8-11    "And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear them not: for I have delivered them into thine hand; there shall not a man of them stand before thee.  (9)  Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly, and went up from Gilgal all night.  (10)  And the LORD discomfited them before Israel, and slew them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them along the way that goeth up to Bethhoron, and smote them to Azekah, and unto Makkedah.  (11)  And it came to pass, as they fled from before Israel, and were in the going down to Bethhoron, that the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword."

The five kings had risen in opposition. They were wanting to take a stand, but Israel had been promised the land by God, Himself.  They were posing as opposition to Israel and Gibeon, but in reality, they were opposing God. Who do you think will win when anyone tries to rise up in opposition to God? We know our Lord is always the Victor! Right?

Joshua appealed to the Lord and was told not to fear those five kings and their armies. There was a reason for Joshua not to be afraid and that was the fact that God had promised. We sing the song sometimes, "Standing on the promises of God." The Lord's answer to Joshua was, "I have delivered them into thine hand." Notice the words from God were in past tense.  "I have delivered." In the heart and mind of God, it was already accomplished. Joshua merely needed to make a stand and let his voice be heard.

When the time was right, God told Joshua to go against them. The Lord cast down great stones from heaven and they died. There could be speculation as to what kind of stones were cast down, but whatever it was, the work was accomplished. The Lord slew more men than Joshua and Israel slew with the sword.  Long before David penned the words, God was the strength and shield and buckler for Israel. He is the same today as He was back then. In our day, it seems that the element that may be missing is the earnest prayer of God's people. I don't say that as a judmental statement, but I have to think one of two things: either we are not praying enough, or it isn't the right time yet. In God's time, He delivers. Let us trust Him and continue to seek His face as we turn from those things that are opposing to Him.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
