Daily Devotion: 2 Chronicles 6:40-42

2 Chronicles 6:40-42    "Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.  (41)  Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.  (42)  O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant."

In His prayer, Solomon has mentioned the possible situations that could occur wherein the people would need forgiveness and restoration. Aren't you thankful that our God is a restoring God? In the prayer, Solomon had confessed the fact that there is no one without sin and all need forgiveness. God indeed is filled with forgiveness when His people repent and return to Him. Solomon was basing his request for forgiveness upon the placement of the ark of the covenant in the Holies of Holies and the blood of animals being sacrficed. We are an abundantly blessed people in that we have been shown the basis of forgiveness is not in the blood of an animal; rather, our forgiveness is through the shed blood of the Son of God, Jesus the Christ.

Solomon is now finishing his prayer.  His request is for the eyes of the Lord to be overseeing and the ears of the Lord to be open to hear the prayers that would be offered in that place.  He concludes by asking the Lord to take residence in this great house that has been built for the purpose of worship. When I say, "take residence," Solomon has already acknowledged that the universe is not large enough to contain the presence of the Lord.  But Solomon is asking that when the people come to that place they would be able to feel the manifest presence of the Lord. Is that not what we desire when we enter into the local house of worship that is dedicated to the glory of the Lord? We pray for the Lord to make Himself known to us each time as we gather together. It is such a blessed experience when we feel so close to the Lord that we can feel the touch of His hand upon us and hear, as it were, the very voice of God speaking to our hearts.

"Let thy priests be clothed with salvation." In our day, that prayer would be something to this effect, "Let the minister be hidden in the glory of the Lord and the salvation through Christ Jesus be that which is first and foremost declared." The old ministers would pray, "Hide me behind the cross of Jesus." When the Lord would make Himself manifest in the worship, they would say, "We were blessed to walk about heaven today."

May our prayer be such that we would desire the very same thing when we come together to worship. Let us seek forgiveness, restoration, and fellowship in our daily walk. Let us seek to honor our Lord to the highest degree as we come together to worship. Let us declare His praises through singing, praying, and preaching.  Solomon concluded his prayer by saying, "remember the mercies of David thy servant."  We conclude our prayers by beseeching the mercies of God through the blessed name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.  May our prayers be fervent and effectual.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Matthew 6:9-13 (3)

Matthew 6:9-13    "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.  (10)  Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  (11)  Give us this day our daily bread.  (12)  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  (13)  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." "After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name." When others might go away from us, God has promised never to forsake us. When others might not be truthful, our Father in heaven is faithful and full of truth. When others cannot understand our feelings, our Heavenly Father knows exactly how we feel and is able to empathize with us. In fact, He has told us that He is "touched by the feelings of our infirmities." He is stirred when we are sad.  Our relationship with Him is of th...
