Daily Devotion: 2 Chronicles 27:6

2 Chronicles 27:6    "So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the LORD his God."

Jotham began ruling the house of the king while Uzziah, his father, was sick with leprosy. When Uzziah died, Jotham was already well into the daily actions of being the king. We are told that he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord. The Lord blessed him and the kingdom seems to be very quiet during the days of his reign. As we know in our day and time, having quietness in the country is not a bad thing. The country prospered under his reign. There is not much said about Jotham in comparison to some of the other kings, but our verse for today seems to say all that needs to be said. "He prepared his ways before the LORD his God."

As I read that, I am made to wonder if he had read the book of Proverbs that had been written by his forefather, Solomon.  My mind went immediately to the third chapter of Proverbs: "In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  (7)  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." (Proverbs 3:6-7) It surely seems that Jotham established his life by this rule. He prepared his ways before the Lord His God.

Would that not be a good thing for every child of God? We spend our lives making preparations. We prepare for life by getting a good education. We prepare for retirement by setting aside money "for old age". We prepare for special occasions. We constantly are called upon to make preparations for one thing or another. Would it not be a good thing when we begin making preparations that we include the Lord our God in those preparations? "Lord, what would you have me to do? How should I be prepared for this thing?"

We are promised that if seek His counsel for life, He will direct our paths. When God directs our lives, we can be assured it is in the right path. Maybe Jotham also read a song that another forefather had written. We are all familiar with it. "He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake." (Psalm 23:3)  We can be assured that as we follow the direction of the Lord, we will be fulfilling our ultimate purpose in life. We will be glorifying the One Who gave Himself for us. To God be the glory!

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
