Daily Devotion: Philippians 2:8-11

Philippians 2:8-11    "And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  (9)  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  (10)  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  (11)  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

We spoke of Jesus humbling Himself recently and today we see in his humility, He became obedient. He was obedient unto God, the Father. He was obedient unto a covenant, a promise, that was made even before the foundation of the world that at the appointed time He would come into the world to die for His people. We hear the verse often that was spoken to Joseph, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)  This was in accordance to the promise made. He humbled Himself unto dying for His people to save us from our sins.

He finished the work for which He came to do. In His perfect obedience the Father has highly exalted Him. Christ Jesus humbled Himself and became obedient. What a glorious example has been given to us by the very Son of God!  "Wherefore (because of) God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name." There are many names in the world today, if mentioned, you would immediately know who the person was and what he/she had accomplished. I'm not going to mention any particular names because this writing is about our precious Lord.

"There is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." He accomplished that when He laid down His life on the cross, shedding His own precious blood to save a wretch like me. When we are brought to the realization of the finished work of Jesus Christ, there should be an action of humbling ourselves before Him. The name of the Lord Jesus Christ should be so precious to us that we never utter it without a sense of honor and praise unto Him. We often hear His name thrown around as a slur, sometimes as a curse word, sometimes just uttered without a single thought of Who He is and what He has done. This should not be so.

God has declared that name to be the most revered and honored name ever proclaimed. God, the Father, has made Jesus both Lord and Christ. Our declaration should be to that end. We should always speak His name in honor and glory.  I know when we enter heaven, we will fall on our knees before Him and join the Angels' song of " Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come."  We can have a foretaste of glory divine now as we give honor and praise unto the Lamb of God, slain from before the foundation of the world.  May we humble ourselves in service to our Lord.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
