Daily Devotion: John 7:37-38

John 7:37-38   "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. (38) He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."

The past few chapters have been a comparison and contrast concerning those things given by Moses and that which Jesus provides. They spoke as though Moses had been the source of manna. Jesus is the living bread. Moses gave them water from a rock.  Jesus is the Living Water from the Rock of Ages. Moses was with them to lead them. He had given the law. Moses died. They were constantly leaning back (in past tense) on that which Moses gave.

Jesus' reply was in the present tense. "I am" the living bread. "I am" the living water. You search the Scriptures for the words of Moses. They testify (present tense) of me. You rely on the law which calls for death to those who transgress. "I am" the redemption from that death.

There were those who refused to believe and there were those who were blessed to believe. These folks were hungering and thirsting and did not even realize it. Jesus cried out on the last day of the feast...."If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." It's an open invitation to His children. The living water that flows from Jesus comes from His very heart, a heart that is bent toward you. His desire is for your well being and He has provided all that is necessary for that.

We often feel gladness and relief when we come in contact with certain friends. They give us a certain sense of calmness when we are in their presence. The Word of God teaches us there is a friend that sticks to us closer than a brother. His name is Jesus and He constantly bids us to come into His presence. There, we can take in that freshness of grace that gives sweet relief.

Teach us please Lord how to come to you in faith believing you are the One.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
