Daily Devotion: John 9:35-38

John 9:35-38    "Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?  (36)  He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?  (37)  And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.  (38)  And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him."

A popular song from the 70's says, "What a difference you've made in my life." Would that not apply to this man who had lived all his life in darkness, until Jesus came into his life? In one day, Jesus turned his life completely around. As he was brought to the place where he normally would sit and ask for alms, he had no idea about this one named Jesus. And now, he confesses Him to be the Son of God, Lord of his life. Again, I say we cannot put the Lord in a box and say He works in the same manner each time, but this is basically the same way the Samaritan woman had been brought to the understanding of the Person of Jesus Christ.

This man had been questioned by the Scribes and Pharisees concerning what had taken place in his life. How did you receive your sight? Were you really blind? More than once, they asked him how this had happened. He gladly told them each time. But they, who were supposed to be able to see and understand the things of God, were blinded to this great miracle. It came to a place where the elders of the temple felt threatened by the zeal of this man. They questioned the righteousness of Jesus. The man simply answered, "If this man were not of God, he could do nothing." When he said that, they answered him saying, "you were born altogether in sins, and you dare try to teach us?" They cast him out of the temple.

Ah, but when they cast him out, guess who was right there to catch him? That's right!  "Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him..."  This morning, each of us can find peace and assurance in this thought. When we feel everyone has thrown us away, Jesus will be with us.  He has promised never to leave us and never to forsake us.  This same Jesus has the ability to make such a wonderful difference in our lives!  He loves us unconditionally and catches us each time we fall. That gives me peace that goes beyond my ability to even comprehend. How about you?  It calls for pure worship from our heart to His.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: An Important Question

In one of the great Psalms of thanksgiving, the writer asked a most pertinent question. “What shall I render unto the Lord for all of His benefits toward me” (Psalm 116:12) ? We may observe two elements in this question. The psalmist acknowledges having received many benefits, or blessings, at the hand of the Lord. For the believer, to be the receiver of blessings from the Lord is a fact beyond question. That is one facet of a proper perception of reality. However, for the unbeliever, or even for the nominal believer, such things come in the course of nature, or as a matter of deserving them. But to fail to see that such benefits and blessings come from the Lord is to lose touch with reality. The other element of the question is that the writer expresses a sense of obligation to the Lord and reveals a desire to do something in response to the amazing goodness of God to him. It is the reflex of the godly heart to desire to do something in response to the perceived go...
