Hebrews 1:6 "And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him."
Christmas in July.... How often do we hear that? Today's passage of Scripture
is fitting whether it be December, April, or July. "Let all the angels of
God worship Him." And we know for certain that they do worship Him. They
always have and they always will.
Isaiah 6:3 describes angels as constantly singing, "Holy, holy, holy, is
the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." That scene was
described some 700 years before Jesus came into the world. Revelation 4:8
describes the same scene after the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of
Jesus the Christ. "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is,
and is to come." This is the ongoing purpose of the angels of heaven. They
were created to praise and glorify the Lord.
Our text speaks of one specific moment when the angels were called together to
worship and praise. Be still this morning and listen in your heart as they sang
the praises of our Lord. "And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them,
and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
(10) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good
tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. (11) For unto you is born
this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (12) And
this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling
clothes, lying in a manger. (13) And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, (14) Glory to God in
the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." (Luke 2:9-14)
They boldly sang the praises of our Saviour and Redeemer. This event of worship
is a sweet part of celebrating the birth of our Saviour. Can you imagine the
sound that went through the ears of those shepherds as they watched and
listened? My heart swells with joy as I sit here this morning trying to imagine
the sound of this heavenly host praising and glorifying God. They did this even
though they did not then, nor do they now, fully understand redemption.
You and I have been blessed to have somewhat of an understanding of Jesus'
accomplished work through His death, burial, and resurrection.
Should we not be bold and loud in our giving praise, honor,
and glory unto the Lord?
We have heard the joyful sound..
