Daily Devotion: Hebrews 10:11-14

Hebrews 10:11-14    "And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:  (12)  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  (13)  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.  (14)  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified."

We are coming to the conclusion of the first three sections of the book of Hebrews. The first section identified Jesus Christ as the very Son of God. The second section identified Jesus, though He was of the tribe of Judah, as the Great High Priest. This third section identifies Jesus, the very Son of God, our Great High Priest, also as the very sacrificial offering to be given. Today's verses bring to conclusion the effectiveness of His offering of Himself.

The work ethic of long ago was no one sat down until the job was finished. That ethic isn't quite as prevalent in our day and time as it was a hundred years ago, or even less than that. So, we do not want to skip over verse 12. When did Jesus sit down? "After He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever." We can take that verse to know and understand His work was complete and final. The last words of Jesus on the cross recorded by John are these: "It is finished."  There remains no more sacrifice to be made for our sins to be washed away. Jesus did it!

He sat down by the Father, expecting (waiting) for his enemies to be destroyed. Jesus Christ is reigning and ruling in His kingdom even at this present time. At the last moment on earth, He will deliver the kingdom to the Father in its glory and completeness.  "For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.  (26)  The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." (1 Corinthians 15:25-26)  Be assured the days of that last enemy are numbered. Death is defeated and ultimately will be destroyed when we are gathered home in glory with our blessed Saviour.

"For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified."  We have seen in our study of Hebrews that our Lord will present us before the Father as holy and without blame. We are still in the flesh at this present time, but we will be absolutely perfect when He presents us to the Father. We will be perfect, not through any good of our own,  but through the shed blood of the perfect offering of our Great High Priest.

Be assured of that security that is given through the sanctification of the blood by the Holy Spirit of God. Find joy in the finished work of our blessed Saviour.  He rules!  He reigns!  And through Him, we are kings and priests unto our Heavenly Father.  Now as we will begin the fourth section of the book of Hebrews, we will see that we should live as the kings and priests that we are.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
