Daily Devotion: Hebrews 9:24-26

Hebrews 9:24-26    "For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: (25) Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; (26) For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself."

I begin each time to write short, to the point, thoughts of devotion. I begin with those intentions and then find myself writing sermonettes.  It's with that thought, I begin this writing. But then, how can I minimize the work that Jesus accomplished? And I realize today's may seem like a repetition, but if the Lord saw the need for this theme to be repeated, then I must repeat it. Too many people feel the atonement is not completed unless they do something to put it into effect.  Let me assure you by the Word of the Lord: Jesus Christ has finished the work of atonement. He has paid the debt for your sin.

Under the law, the high priest entered a curtain (veil) and sprinkled blood upon the mercy seat made of gold. If the priest did the work correctly, God came down and accepted that offering. The priest walked back out. Judgment of atonement was completed - for that year. The next year, it was repeated and the next, and the next.

That went on until.... The time of reformation. The time when the Son of God, Jesus, our Great High Priest entered, not into a place made by man, but into heaven itself to offer His very own blood as payment in full for our sin debt. He did this once. He did it forever. His work does not have to be repeated. The end of the Jewish age (world) had come to an end. He did it to put away sin by Himself.

Your sin, and my sin, has been put away. That debt has been remitted by the blood of Jesus Christ. It was paid in full, accepted by God when Jesus offered Himself to the Father on our behalf. He walked out of that tomb. He's alive! And we are alive in Him!

Rejoice!! He came to save His people from our sins and HE DID IT!

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: An Important Question

In one of the great Psalms of thanksgiving, the writer asked a most pertinent question. “What shall I render unto the Lord for all of His benefits toward me” (Psalm 116:12) ? We may observe two elements in this question. The psalmist acknowledges having received many benefits, or blessings, at the hand of the Lord. For the believer, to be the receiver of blessings from the Lord is a fact beyond question. That is one facet of a proper perception of reality. However, for the unbeliever, or even for the nominal believer, such things come in the course of nature, or as a matter of deserving them. But to fail to see that such benefits and blessings come from the Lord is to lose touch with reality. The other element of the question is that the writer expresses a sense of obligation to the Lord and reveals a desire to do something in response to the amazing goodness of God to him. It is the reflex of the godly heart to desire to do something in response to the perceived go...
