Daily Devotion: Hebrews 12:18-21

Hebrews 12:18-21    "For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,  (19)  And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:  (20)  (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:  (21)  And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake)"

I love how the Lord is constantly showing us glimpses of His righteousness, His holiness, His majesty, and glory. Sometimes, we become like Moses and are fearful when the Lord is showing Himself. We do that because we are sinful creatures.  "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:  (11)  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God." (Romans 3:10-11) Paul goes on to quote, "There is none that doeth good, no, not one."  On our own, we are not.. let me repeat... we are not worthy to approach the throne of God.  If you remember, when Moses went up on the mountain to receive the law, God told him to tell the people they were not to touch the mountain or they would die. When Moses came down from the mountain, his face glowed so brightly that the people asked him to put a veil over his face. They said they wanted Moses to speak to them rather than God.  They were frightened.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that we "are not come unto the mount" which could not be approached. We do not need a "Moses" or any other man to be our "go between" between God and us. We do not need an earthly priest to confess our sins. Let me sneak down a few verses (which we will revisit soon) to see the beauty of our position in Christ by God's grace.  We are not coming to the burning mountain; rather, we are coming "to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant." (Hebrews 12:24)   "In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink." (John 7:37)

Can you see the culmination of all we have talked about in Hebrews?  God will not compromise His holiness nor His righteousness. His desire was toward a people and He gave His only begotten Son to die in payment for our sins. That payment was accepted by the Father. I must reinsert just here that Christ did not and never has offered Himself to us. He offered His atoning death and shed blood to the Father for us and the Father accepted that offering as payment in full for us. But not only did He pay our sin debt, He now will quench our hunger and thirst for a better way and a better life. When we approach God, we can do so boldly through the righteous sacrifice of Christ's blood, knowing the Father's love. He has open arms, saying "Come unto me all ye who are weary and heavy laden. I will give you rest."

Daily Devotion: Genesis 3:15

Genesis 3:15   "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." In this verse we see the first prophecy concerning the work of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The work of Jesus Christ is in opposition to the work of the serpent (Satan). (Romans 8:6-8 )   "For to be carnally minded  is  death; but to be spiritually minded  is  life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind  is  enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8 ) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." The carnal mind with which we all have to contend is the offspring of the transgression in the Garden. After their sin, carnality became a constant and daily battle. It was because of sin that Jesus came to this earth. "... "For to be carnally minded  is  death..." The spiritual mind is the offspring of the work of the seed of the woman - Jesus.  &

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:1-5

Psalm 100:1-5      Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.   (2)  Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.   (3)  Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.   (4)  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.   (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Happy Thanksgiving! I want to say that I pray each one has a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.  No doubt, there will be a "joyful noise" as families gather together to enjoy a delicious feast. Laughter and joy will be abundant. I am so thankful for that blessing of gladness upon our hearts and minds. God is so good. As we enter into the festivities, may our hearts and minds be filled with true thanksgiving unto the Lord for His goodness and mercy upon us. Though it is impossible to

Daily Devotion: Psalm 67:1-3

Psalm 67:1-3    "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.  (2)  That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.  (3)  Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee." As you read verse one, can you say in your heart and mind that God has indeed blessed you? Has He been merciful to you? Have you experienced the blessing of Christ Jesus shining into your heart the truth of God's love bestowed upon you? Can you exclaim with John, the Beloved, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." (1 John 3:1) We find another "Selah" in this passage.  It requires some time for us to stop, look, listen, and think upon the great blessing of God's grace; yet, it is so very much worth the time and effort spent. Why is it important for us to meditate upon these things?  First, I think it is important that we remain hu
