Daily Devotion: Deuteronomy 16:16-17

Deuteronomy 16:16-17    "Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: (17) Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee."

These instructions were given for the times of assembling the men together each year for worship.  They were to go to the place which God would choose. God placed His name in Jerusalem and the temple was built there. In time, this was the place they were to go three times a year to observe sacrificial worship. They would take their animals that had been specified as acceptable sacrifices unto the Lord.

They were to go for "the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles."  The feast of unleavened bread was the feast of Passover. They would hold in remembrance the time God brought them out of bondage with a great deliverance. The feast of weeks was a feast to observe thanksgiving unto the Lord for a bountiful harvest. The feast of tabernacles was a remembrance of how the Lord provided for them in the forty year journey through the wilderness.

How does this relate to us? First and foremost, Jesus Christ is the Passover Lamb.  When we meet to worship, we come through the perfect offering of the Blood of our Lord who gave His life for us. We have eternal life through the shed blood of Christ our Saviour!

We honor our Lord who blesses us with both material and spiritual blessings. He provides our daily bread. He bountifully provides every need that we have each day.  He is the fulfillment of all of these feasts. We sit with Him in heavenly places as we come together to worship in Spirit and in truth.

The people of Israel were to observe these as remembrance of where God brought them from. We also hold in remembrance the fact our Lord Jesus has delivered us from the bondage of our sins. The Lord brought us from that helpless state to the place of being children of the most High God.

We praise and honor Him!!

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
