Daily Devotion: What Is His Son's Name - Proverbs 30:4

Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell? – Proverbs 30:4

By faith we understand and know that Jesus of Nazareth is Christ, the Savior.  A miraculous birth, a tremendous and unparalleled life of Truth, an agonizing torture and death followed by an astounding Resurrection reveal Him.  Jesus is the Son of God.

Jesus said, “No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him” (John 1:18).  And, “Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father” (John 6:46).  Only Jesus reveals God.  He is the way, the truth, and the life of God in the flesh.  He is the light of God in the world, the radiance of the Almighty. 

When asked to explain the kingdom of heaven, the Lord said, “If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven” (John 3:12-13).  He reveals to us what we can comprehend of God.  He alone knows God as part of the Trinity and equally the experience of mankind. What is His name? JESUS.

Daily Devotion: Knowing God By Bearing Fruit

Some will notice the title is not “Bearing fruit because we know God,” so to avoid getting sidetracked with that, we can start with the fact that we won’t bear any godly fruit unless our heart has been changed and the Holy Spirit dwells within us. Also, to avoid confusion, I’ll be using the terms “bearing fruit,” “good works” and “service” interchangeably.  I took this article’s title from Part 7, of John Piper’s “Look at the Book” session on Colossians 1:9-12.
