Daily Devotion: The Kingdom of the Stone - Daniel 2:44

And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. – Daniel 2:44

During the reign of Nebuchanezzar II of Babylon, Daniel was part of a group of young Israelites brought into the court of the Babylonian king.  The king had a dream involving a great statue made head to foot of gold, silver, brass, iron, and a mixture of iron and clay for feet that was destroyed by a stone that was cut out without hands.   This dream so greatly distressed the king that he threatened to execute some of his counselors when they could not interpret it.  Daniel was then summoned to give the interpretation, and by the grace of God, he not only explained the dream but he recounted the dream without any details from the king.

After explaining that the many metals represented many great kingdoms, in the end God would establish a kingdom that would break apart these other kingdoms and consume them.  This kingdom of God would stand forever.  Today, we can look back in history and see that the vision revealed the great kingdoms of Babylon, Persia, Greece, Roman and finally a mixed kingdom of Roman and other cultures would rise and fall following one another. Finally the Kingdom of God overwhelmed and consumed them all through spiritual infiltration and conquest with the coming of Christ.

This kingdom is sought by the disciples of Christ today all around the world. By grace, we enter it in spirit by returning the love of God through devotion to Christ and obedience to His teaching. In this kingdom we enjoy righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. It is God the Father’s good pleasure to give us the kingdom forevermore. Enter my friends. Enter and enjoy.
