Daily Devotion: Psalm 19:1-3

Psalm 19:1-3    "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.  (2)  Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.  (3)  There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard."

I love to step out at night and just look up into the heavens.  The view up into the sky at night shows me without a doubt that God's glory is all around us. As I look up at the stars, I try to remember that God, in His infinite wisdom, strategically placed each star and planet.  The Prophet Isaiah spoke it in this manner, "Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth." (Isaiah 40:26)

He calls each star by name. Think about that. I cannot even count them, but He knows them all by name.  Now we get into the personal aspect of that part of creation which we call nature.  Yes, He knows each star by its name.  Then we think about the sparrows.  We sometimes tend to even overlook them; yet Jesus tells us, "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father." (Matthew 10:29)  They are such a small bird and in such abundance that we do not even think about their value.  Our Heavenly Father sees each time a tiny sparrow falls down.  Does Jesus care? Oh Yes! He cares!  He even cares about the stars in the sky and the sparrows in the air.

Now where am I going with this? How does this apply to us in our everyday walk? Let me go back to Matthew and add two more verses to verse 29.  "Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.  (30)  But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  (31)  Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31) If our Heavenly Father knows the stars by name and sees each sparrow as it falls and knows even the number of hairs on our head, does it not stand to reason that if He is interested enough to know the number of hairs on my head that He also is interested in my deepest cares and thoughts and struggles of life?

So what should be my response to all this? What do the heavens declare? What does each rising of the sun declare? What do the sun, moon, and stars declare?  "There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard."  Throughout the world, even in the darkest place on earth, the voice of all creation boldly and loudly declares the absolute sovereign glory of our Heavenly Father, the LORD of all creation!  If nature declares His glory, should we not also be about our Father's business by publicly and boldly declaring the glory of our Lord?  I think yes, we should. What do you think?

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...
