Daily Devotion: Psalm 47:6-9

Psalm 47:6-9    "Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.  (7)  For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.  (8)  God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.  (9)  The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted."

What are we supposed to do as we live in a world that is upside down?  What are we supposed to do when there are people who say evil is good and good is evil? What are we supposed to do when it seems the ungodly are controlling the world?  David must have had the same thoughts and the Lord spoke to him and to us through him.

What are we supposed to do? "Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises."  Jesus spoke concerning the manner in which good will overcome evil.  "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth." (Matthew 5:5)  What does it mean to be meek? Is it equivalent to being weak? Does the soft spoken person indicate someone who is afraid to make a stand? Meekness is not equivalent to weakness; rather it describes someone who is willing to maintain their stance of worship, praise, and submission to the will of God. A meek individual is willing to be in the Word of God and trying to follow the Word of God.

David understood and shared with us the grand truth that there is only ONE King.  "For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding. God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness."  Throughout history, the ungodly have tried to overthrow the rule and reign of the Almighty God. They have failed every time. The ultimate attempt occurred two thousand years ago when they nailed Jesus to the cross. They thought they were finally rid of any Godly influence in the world and they could take a place of authority.  We know what happened.  Yes, Jesus died on the cross Yes, they laid His lifeless body in the tomb. AND YES, after three days and nights in the tomb, Jesus came out alive.  The ungodly attempt to rid the world of God had once again FAILED!

You see, there is a pattern that follows the path of the ungodly - they fail. So what are we supposed to do?  "Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises."  In the past few years, they have almost been successful in separating the people of God by trying to forbid us to meet for worship. What are we supposed to do? "The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted."  We are not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together for public worship. So again I ask, What are we supposed to do? The answer is fairly simple: We are to live in the manner to which we have been called. We are to worship and serve the only True and Living God. He will prevail.

Have Faith In God  (B.B. McKinney)

Have faith in God, He’s on His throne;
Have faith in God, He watches o’er His own;
He cannot fail, He must prevail;
Have faith in God, have faith in God.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: An Important Question

In one of the great Psalms of thanksgiving, the writer asked a most pertinent question. “What shall I render unto the Lord for all of His benefits toward me” (Psalm 116:12) ? We may observe two elements in this question. The psalmist acknowledges having received many benefits, or blessings, at the hand of the Lord. For the believer, to be the receiver of blessings from the Lord is a fact beyond question. That is one facet of a proper perception of reality. However, for the unbeliever, or even for the nominal believer, such things come in the course of nature, or as a matter of deserving them. But to fail to see that such benefits and blessings come from the Lord is to lose touch with reality. The other element of the question is that the writer expresses a sense of obligation to the Lord and reveals a desire to do something in response to the amazing goodness of God to him. It is the reflex of the godly heart to desire to do something in response to the perceived go...
