Daily Devotion: Psalm 95:6-11

Psalm 95:6-11    "O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.  (7)  For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,  (8)  Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:  (9)  When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work.  (10)  Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways:  (11)  Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest."

This morning, as I read these words, I see the way of true revival comes through the route God has designed. "O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker."

This applies to every child of God. If we truly want revival in our land, we must come in this manner.  As one man stated in the church I grew up in, we must go the "knee route."  Let us kneel. Let us be humble. Let us repent. Let us confess the Lord is indeed our God and our maker. He is worthy of our praise, "For he is our God; and we are the people of His pasture. We are the sheep of His hand."  In other words, He has made us and not we ourselves.

As we kneel before Him, we must also be ready to listen as He speaks. Why was God grieved with the people of Israel as they traveled through the wilderness toward the promised land? Why were they delayed 40 years before reaching that land?  They hardened their hearts toward Him. Instead of going forward by faith to that land, they felt it was too difficult and wanted to go back to their old ways.

So this morning, I conclude with the words spoken by our Lord through the Psalmist, "To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart." Seek His face. Listen to that still small voice within you where the Lord speaks His Words of direction, instruction, correction, and comfort. Today is the day.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: An Important Question

In one of the great Psalms of thanksgiving, the writer asked a most pertinent question. “What shall I render unto the Lord for all of His benefits toward me” (Psalm 116:12) ? We may observe two elements in this question. The psalmist acknowledges having received many benefits, or blessings, at the hand of the Lord. For the believer, to be the receiver of blessings from the Lord is a fact beyond question. That is one facet of a proper perception of reality. However, for the unbeliever, or even for the nominal believer, such things come in the course of nature, or as a matter of deserving them. But to fail to see that such benefits and blessings come from the Lord is to lose touch with reality. The other element of the question is that the writer expresses a sense of obligation to the Lord and reveals a desire to do something in response to the amazing goodness of God to him. It is the reflex of the godly heart to desire to do something in response to the perceived go...
