Psalm 145:4-6 "One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. (5) I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. (6) And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness."
The Psalms often address our state of being, or our state of mind. As you read
through the various Psalms, you see the writer would sometimes be in the
"valley of the shadow of death" and other times be climbing the rocky
cliffs "with hinds' feet". There would be times when he felt himself
to be slipping and other times he was sure-footed as he went along his path of
life. Can you identify with these emotions? And there may be times when
we feel emotionless. I think, for me, those are the most dangerous times when
I'm going through the motions with no feeling whatsoever. But through it
all, we can truthfully say that our God is faithful and He has never left us to
our own devices as we trust Him each day.
Yesterday we saw David exclaiming His intention of exalting the name of the
Lord through worship, praise, and commitment to service unto the Lord. Today,
we see his commitment to sharing with others his knowledge and experience with
the Lord. It seems to me that the greatest legacy we can leave to the
next generation is our faith and confidence in the Lord God Almighty. It is of
the utmost importance to speak of the goodness and greatness of God to our
younger people. It is important that we speak His name in honor and glory. It
breaks my heart to see it being written and to hear the name of God spoken as
though it was some by-word. We should be declaring with great joy the
majestic greatness of our Lord.
David said, "Others may speak of the great actions of God in our lives
(and that is a good thing in itself), but 'I will declare thy greatness."
It is important to recognize the blessings that are given to us, but it
is more important to recognize and acknowledge that it is God, Himself, that
does all these things. James spoke it in this manner, "Every good
gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of
lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James
1:17) All things good come from our Father in heaven. Let us never forget
to honor HIm with the glory that belongs to Him. Let us speak the words of
honor and let us live our lives in such a way that honors our blessed Redeemer.
