Daily Devotion: Genesis 1:1

Genesis 1:1    "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."

We are very inquisitive by nature.  We want to know how things work, when and where did an action begin, and who was able to put something together in order for it to work properly.  Children like to take things apart to see what makes it work. My problem was that I could not get them put back together in the proper manner in order for it to work again.

It is important to have wisdom enough to know the answer when it is presented to us. The problem lies in being able to accept an answer even when we do not understand how that answer applies to our question. One such question that requires such an approach is this: "How did the universe begin?"  Now, there are many answers that have been given and quite honestly most of them require more faith than the one answer that is true. Some believe that two great masses collided and from such turmoil, complete order erupted. The problem with that is it creates more questions than answers. If that is the truth, then where did the two masses come from? Who or what created those masses?

We find the answer in God's Word and though we cannot see with our eyes when, where, and how it happened, the truth makes complete sense. God took nothing and created this beautiful universe by simply speaking the Word. The God of order spoke complete order into existence. He did it in an orderly fashion, creating each step at a time. Before He created man (the final part of creation), He created all the things that are necessary for us to exist: the air we breathe, the dry land upon which we live, the sun, moon, and stars, the grass and trees, and all animal life. Before He created the fish, He created the water in which they live. The smallest particle known, the atom, is made in the same order as the largest thing we know, the universe.  There is a nucleus with electrons and protons rotating around it. There is the sun with the planets rotating around it.  I'm certainly not a science nor an astronomy teacher, but I can see true order in the smallest and largest creation.

There is only one answer that makes sense and I choose, by God's grace, to believe it:  "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."  I'm thankful that not only in creation, but in every area of life, God moves first whether by physical creation or by the movement of His Holy Spirit. God moves first and man responds. We will look more at this tomorrow, the Lord willing. But today, let us seek to exalt our Lord by placing Him first in all our thoughts, decisions, and actions.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
