Daily Devotion: Nehemiah 4:13-14

Nehehmiah 4:13-14    "Therefore set I in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.  (14)  And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses."

The enemy had determined to try to attack from within the city of Jerusalem. They knew if they could infiltrate the workers and cause discouragement that the work would cease. Nehemiah set his heart unto the Lord in prayer when he knew of their plan. We can know that the Lord answered his prayer by giving him wisdom to warn the people and  position them strategically. "I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows."  He understood the strength of family and then encouraged and used that strength to make a stand.

Pharaoh also understood the strength of family when Moses went before him to release the people of Israel. At one point, Pharaoh said to Moses, 'You and the people can go, but leave the children with me.' Of course, Moses refused to leave the children.  It seems that throughout time, Satan has continued his strategy of attacking the family. Be certain, he still is using that tactic today. He is coming after our children with a determined agenda.  How can we combat that attack? Let me use the words of Nehemiah, "... remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses."

We must stand guard against the fierce attack that is being waged against the family in our day and time. Be certain, there is an agenda to divide the family. The wolf goes after the lamb that has been separated from the flock. Satan goes after our young when we do not pay close attention and give proper protection to our children.  We see parents being attacked because they dare to stand in defense of their children. Yes, we must "remember the Lord, which is great" and we must stand to protect our families from the enemy.  May the Lord have mercy upon us.
