Genesis 5:1-3 "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; (2) Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. (3) And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth."
Let's go back to the beginning. "So God created man in his own
image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he
them." (Genesis 1:27) Now let's look at the manner in which Seth was
born. "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his
own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth." Seth was born
after Cain killed Abel. If we did not know the occurrence in the Garden of
Eden, we could say that Seth, in the order of progression, was born in the
image of God. But we do know what happened and we do know the consequence of
Adam's transgression. He (Adam), who was made in a sinless fashion,
became a sinful creature. Seth, and every other human being that has been born
into the world, was born in the image of Adam.
Let us look at a couple passages of Scripture that show this truth.
"And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins." (Ephesians 2:1) "For we ourselves also were sometimes
foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in
malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another." (Titus 3:3) We
all were born with a sin nature that had to be dealt with. There is only
one exception to this fact: His name is Jesus.
We could never occupy our home in heaven if every single sin had not been
redeemed through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Thank God, He sent His only
begotten Son into the world for this purpose. As a result, we are redeemed
children of God and have been brought into the family of God. Yes, Jesus is the
only exception to this rule of being born with the sin nature of Adam.
"And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21)
"For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made the righteousness of God in him." (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Yes, Seth was born "after the image" of Adam. God,
through His amazing saving grace, has renewed us into His image by the precious
blood of Jesus Christ. What a wonderful thought to begin this week of
Thanksgiving.
