Daily Devotion: Luke 2:1-7

Luke 2:1-7    "And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  (2)  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria  (3)  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.  (4)  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)  (5)  To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.  (6)  And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered  (7)  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."

Do you believe God works in ways of being behind the scene as well as being out front where His glory  is readily recognized?  Do you believe God is in the details of our lives?  Do you believe God deals with us on a daily basis in all areas of our lives?  I sure hope you do, because if not, you are missing tremendous blessings in seeing the hand of God in everyday activities of life.

God had determined that His Son would be born in the town of Bethlehem.  There is no earthly way or reason that Joseph would take Mary on an 80 mile trip when she was nine months pregnant. So God moved Caesar to call for a census to be taken. Families were to go to the town of their lineage which caused Joseph and Mary to go to Bethlehem because they were of the line of King David. Bethlehem was David's hometown.  Was it coincidence that the census was to be taken or was God moving in their lives to bring them to the place where He had said the Messiah would be born?

My thought today is this:  There are times when life takes a sudden turn that we were not prepared for, but we can find peace in these events if we can understand God is in the details. God is so good and His plans for us are perfect. Let us be thankful and prepared to follow the Lord in all matters. There is hope, peace, joy, and love when we can experience the presence of God in all things.
