Daily Devotion: Genesis 16:11-13

Genesis 16:11-13    "And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction.  (12)  And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man's hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.  (13)  And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?"

These verses are concerning the estate of Hagar, the handmaid of Sarai.  Strife was between Sarai and Hagar after she suggested to Abram that Hagar bear a son. As a result, Hagar fled into the wilderness. It was there the Lord came to her to give her relief. Read carefully these three verses to see the consequences that remain even to this day as God gave Hagar a description of the life of Ishmael.

The lesson that came to my heart this morning speaks of God's faithfulness and mercy even when others may reject us. Hagar felt herself to be all alone with no hope for her future life as she was in the wilderness. May I say just now that I'm thankful our relationship with the Lord is not based upon our feelings; rather, on HIs faithfulness to us. God came and spoke to her sweet words of comfort. It was after this that "... she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me?"  She was speaking these words because even though she had not looked to the Lord in her affliction, He came to her with mercy, grace, and favor upon her life.

Yes, we can be assured that even when we think we are all alone, God is with us. God sees us. He knows our situation and circumstance and He is ready with mercy and grace upon our life. He is faithful and true and full majesty, grace and power.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
