Genesis 17:9 "And God said unto Abraham, Thou shalt keep my covenant therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations."
God is narrowing the vessel by which His covenant would come into the earth.
OUt of all the families on the face of the earth, God is now declaring that His
Son would come out of the seed of Abraham. We certainly have proof of that
recorded throughout the New Testament.
Yes, God established the covenant of the promised land unto Abraham and his
seed; but, the greatest of these is the promise of redemption through the
Messiah. It is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ that God boldly declared
His grace to be sufficient unto redemption. "Thou shalt keep my covenant
therefore, thou, and thy seed after thee in their generations." Paul
plainly tells us of that seed which ultimately kept the covenant.
"Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not,
And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ."
(Galatians 3:16) We are given the lineage of Jesus which takes us back to
Abraham to Noah and to Adam. "For verily he took not on him the
nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.... it behoved
him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful
high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of
the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able
to succour them that are tempted." (Hebrews 2:16-18)
Aren't you thankful that Jesus suffered for us? He suffered in life by all the
things that you and I are tempted. He suffered on the cross in laying down His
life, but was raised again to ascend back into Heaven's glory. We are secured
through His death, burial and resurrection to be able to rejoice in the great
inheritance that has been given us. In Christ Jesus, we are assured of our home
in heaven and we can experience great peace and joy as we go through life here
on earth.
