Daily Devotion: Galatians 4:3-7

Galatians 4:3-7    "Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world  (4)  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,  (5)  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  (6)  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  (7)  Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ."

And then there are a few more verses that are very important to place with these passages.
(John 8:31-32)    "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;  (32)  And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
(John 8:36)    "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

I pray the truth of these verses will sink into our hearts this morning. We have been made free from the condemnation of the law. As children of God, we are still subject to correction and chastisement, but we are not under condemnation.  We were in bondage and absolutely could not bring ourselves out. By His grace, God has called us out of darkness into the light of His redemption.

All that being said, I want us to think about God's timing. "When the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son..."  Do you remember how the 2nd chapter of Luke begins? It is the account of the birth of Jesus and it begins, "And it came to pass..."  In the fullnes of time, it came to pass that God sent forth His Son to redeem us through His death. He laid down His life to give us freedom from that bondage. He has made that truth known to us. We now can pray to God as our "Abba, Father." And it's all because of His amazing grace and love that we are now heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ.  God's timing is always perfect. It isn't always in line with our time schedule, but you can be assured that our God does all things well.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
