Proverbs 8:22-32 "The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was. When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth: While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the world. When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep: When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth: Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him; Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways."
The initial thought of these verses concerns the topic of wisdom and
understanding. When you read these verses, you immediately can see that God's
wisdom was applied in creation. He, in His wisdom, declared every part of
creation to be good. That is, it needed no improvement. When you stop to think
more about these verses, you can see that Jesus is the one who is speaking. It
declares the eternal Sonship of Jesus Christ. It declares that He is our
wisdom, just as Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians, chapter 1. But notice verse 31 of
today's passage: "Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my
delights were with the sons of men." Though we know that God is in
all places at all times, pay close attention to this verse. Let's compare it to
another New Testament writing. In speaking of the redeemed of the Lord, Paul
said, "In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God
through the Spirit." (Ephesians 2:22) It pleased the Lord to make
you to be the "habitable part of His earth." Jesus lives in you and
me and we have been given the mind of Christ by which we are given wisdom and
understanding. My goal is to use more of the mind of Christ instead of my own.
