Daily Devotion: Genesis 41:1-4 and 8-9

Genesis 41:1-4    "And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river. And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow. And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river. And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke."

Genesis 41:8-9    "And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh. Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:"

Pharaoh’s chief butler had been in prison, where Joseph ministered unto him. Joseph’s only request of the butler was that when things were well with him, he would remember Joseph to Pharaoh. He asked this kindness of the butler that Joseph might be delivered from the prison. But as we saw in the previous chapter, the butler forgot Joseph.

From our scripture today, we can see that it was not just a little lapse in memory. Two full years had passed since the chief butler was released from the prison. Two whole years in which Jospeh continued in the prison unjustly, while the butler was restored to his place. The butler went back to living the good life and forgot the ministrations of Joseph.

Then, a situation arose that was so familiar to the chief butler that he could not help but remember. Like the butler had done two years earlier, the Pharaoh dreamed a dream. It was actually two dreams (see verses 5-7), but they both carried the same meaning. These dreams left Pharaoh troubled just like the butler’s dream had left him.

Pharaoh turned to the magicians and wise men of his court for answers as he had surely done many times before. Perhaps in the past, these men had been able to give him satisfactory answers and advice. However, that was not the case in this instance. God hid any notion of the meaning of these dreams from Pharaoh’s wise men (Genesis 41:16).

It was at this point that the chief butler finally remembered Joseph. He remembered Joseph because he remembered his faults. His faults may have included whatever had caused him to be cast into prison. But one thing that he recognized as a fault was that he had not remembered Joseph or shown him kindness.

Beloved of God, we may face many trials in this life. Some of them will leave us troubled. Eventually, we are going to realize that the things we once relied on are not sufficient for our needs. By His grace, God will provide us a witness to point us back to Jesus.

As God gives us opportunity, let us remember to show kindness. Do not let your prosperity cause you to forget the prison you have been delivered from. More than that, do not let your prosperity cause you to forget the One who has ministered to you faithfully. Remember your faults and confess them before the LORD.

Daily Devotion: Genesis 3:15

Genesis 3:15   "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel." In this verse we see the first prophecy concerning the work of our Lord Jesus Christ.  The work of Jesus Christ is in opposition to the work of the serpent (Satan). (Romans 8:6-8 )   "For to be carnally minded  is  death; but to be spiritually minded  is  life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind  is  enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (8 ) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." The carnal mind with which we all have to contend is the offspring of the transgression in the Garden. After their sin, carnality became a constant and daily battle. It was because of sin that Jesus came to this earth. "... "For to be carnally minded  is  death..." The spiritual mind is the offspring of the work of the seed of the woman - Jesus.  &

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:1-5

Psalm 100:1-5      Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.   (2)  Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.   (3)  Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.   (4)  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.   (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Happy Thanksgiving! I want to say that I pray each one has a happy and blessed Thanksgiving.  No doubt, there will be a "joyful noise" as families gather together to enjoy a delicious feast. Laughter and joy will be abundant. I am so thankful for that blessing of gladness upon our hearts and minds. God is so good. As we enter into the festivities, may our hearts and minds be filled with true thanksgiving unto the Lord for His goodness and mercy upon us. Though it is impossible to

Daily Devotion: Psalm 67:1-3

Psalm 67:1-3    "God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; Selah.  (2)  That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.  (3)  Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee." As you read verse one, can you say in your heart and mind that God has indeed blessed you? Has He been merciful to you? Have you experienced the blessing of Christ Jesus shining into your heart the truth of God's love bestowed upon you? Can you exclaim with John, the Beloved, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God." (1 John 3:1) We find another "Selah" in this passage.  It requires some time for us to stop, look, listen, and think upon the great blessing of God's grace; yet, it is so very much worth the time and effort spent. Why is it important for us to meditate upon these things?  First, I think it is important that we remain hu
