Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
"There is a way that seems right to a man." The problem with that sentence is that the way which seems right to a man is usually paved with glitter and glamour that does not last. It attracts the eye which does not always give 20/20 spiritual vision. John tells us in 1 John 2:16, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." The eye and natural mind wants to lead us in those ways and what does John say about those "ways"? They are "not of the Father." So what is the result if it is not of the father? Solomon was very much to the point with his answer: "the end thereof are the ways of death." How do we avoid these ways that are contrary to God and also contrary to us? Paul tells us the answer: "... seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:1-2) If the way that seems right to man is wrong, what is the correct way? "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6) Yes, Jesus is the way that truly is life and right.
