Genesis 45:25-28 "And they went up out of Egypt, and came into the land of Canaan unto Jacob their father, and told him, saying, Joseph is yet alive, and he is governor over all the land of Egypt. And Jacob's heart fainted, for he believed them not. And they told him all the words of Joseph, which he had said unto them: and when he saw the wagons which Joseph had sent to carry him, the spirit of Jacob their father revived: And Israel said, It is enough; Joseph my son is yet alive: I will go and see him before I die."
Joseph’s brothers returned to Canaan where their father, Israel, and their families were living. They arrived with a caravan of wagons loaded with provisions. This must have been a wondrous sight for Israel and his family. But he was about to hear something too wondrous to believe.
The first thing the brothers did was to tell Israel that Joseph was alive. Not only was he alive, but he had authority over all the land of Egypt. Israel had been convinced for all these years that Joseph was dead. To be told now that Joseph was not only alive but ruling over Egypt was more than Israel could believe.
This news was so overwhelming that it physically weakened Israel. He was afraid to even hope that such a wonderful thing could be true. His sons began to testify to him of all the things that Joseph had said. Then they showed him the wagons that he had sent for them.
Israel was finally convinced of this glorious truth. He declared that the proof was sufficient. He knew that Joseph was alive. More than that, he knew that he would get to see him. What joy Israel must have had in those moments, and what joy the brothers must have felt in seeing their father revived in spirit!
Sometimes, we are like Israel when we first hear the news of our living Redeemer. It sounds too good to be true that Jesus could love us so much and have such authority, even in this land of bondage. However, when we are blessed to hear the testimony of His word and see the many proofs of His life and power, our spirits are revived. We can say with Israel that it is enough: our Lord is alive, and we will see Him for ourselves!
