Proverbs 26:20-22 "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. (21) As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. (22) The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly."
Ah, the rumor mill !! Sometimes it seems it's wheel turns faster than
the speed of sound. I believe we all have been subjects of its damage.
Oftentimes at church camp, and other activities, a circle is formed. One person
whispers something into the ear of the next person who in turn whispers to the
next. By the time it makes the revolution of the circle, the things
spoken are nothing like the original.
How can this spread of rumor be stopped? It's really simple. Maybe we all
just need a gentle reminder. "Where no wood is, there the
fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife
ceaseth." The simple answer is this - don't repeat it.
