Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent."

Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this.

Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still, the LORD used them to make an impact on Israel for another forty years. It all began with them doing as the LORD commanded. God was about to do wondrous things before the Egyptians and the children of Israel.

The LORD knew the thoughts and intent of Pharaoh’s heart. This is clearly seen in His instruction in verse nine. God did not say “if Pharaoh demands that you show him a miracle” but “when Pharaoh demands that you show him a miracle.” Notice that the first miracle was something Moses had already witnessed at the burning bush when God caused his rod to become a serpent.

Having already seen God change the rod into a serpent, Moses was able to go before Pharaoh with a renewed measure of confidence. They went in before Pharaoh, and everything unfolded just as the LORD had said. Pharaoh demanded a miracle. Moses told Aaron to throw the rod down, and when he did, it became a serpent.

Dear ones, the LORD is faithful in all His ways. He gives us individual experiences in our lives that we might know His power, just as He did with Moses and the rod at the burning bush. When we are called on to do the LORD’s command on a more visible stage, we can do so with great confidence because He has already shown us what He can do. Seeing the LORD work in our lives always begins with doing as the LORD commands.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
