Isaiah 2:17 "And the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day."
We saw in the book of Proverbs 19:21, "There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand." The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. And then in the book of the Psalms, "He maketh the devices of the people of none effect." (Psalm 33:10) The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Let's face it, there are times when men think too highly of themselves. It used to be said that "we get too big for our britches." The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Jesus had much to say about pride, destruction and humility. It is a dangerous position when we try to lift ourselves up. The Lord knows how to bring us down in a heartbeat. Isaiah had much to say about the day of the Lord. He is speaking of those times when the Lord makes Himself known to us in such a mighty way that there is no mistaking Who He is and How powerful He truly is. In that day, "the loftiness of man shall be bowed down." In that day, "the haughtiness of men shall be made low." The Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. Paul tells us, "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Romans 12:3) Just prior to this, He tells us that we are not to be conformed to (fashioned by) this world, but we are to be "transformed by the renewing of (our) minds." It is a literal battle of the mind in order to maintain humility in our minds. It is a daily transformation that we must undergo, but be assured it is well worth it when, in our understanding, "the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day." Who will we lift up in our thoughts? Ourself? Or Jesus?
