Daily Devotion: Isaiah 2:2-3

Isaiah 2:2-3    "And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.  (3)  And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem."

Jacob's vision of the ladder is the first time we see the House of God mentioned. it was there that he saw Angels ascending and descending/. It was there that Jacob received the message from God concerning correction and direction for his life. I will not say that it is only in the "building of the church" that we receive messages from God, but I will say that it is through regular attendance of worship services that our hearts are tuned to receive. Some might disagree with that, but I can confidently say the writer of Hebrews agrees with that statement. "And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." (Hebrews 10:24-25) I believe church attendance is very important or God would not have included it in His Word.  Isaiah tells us, "... all nations shall flow unto it." I believe the Lord Jesus Christ has established His Church throughout the entire world. We are told that He has "... redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation." (Revelation 5:9)

In the Lord's Church, we find He will "teach us His ways."  It is most important to attend a Bible believing and Bible preaching congregation. In the Lord's Church, we are taught how to "walk in His paths." Out of Zion (the Lord's Church) the Word of the Lord goes forth. We are to take that Word and say to others, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob." Yes,as part of the Church, we are to be active in living, speaking, teaching, encouraging others to walk in the paths of righteousness in which the Lord leads us.  When was the last time I invited someone to go to Church with me?

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: An Important Question

In one of the great Psalms of thanksgiving, the writer asked a most pertinent question. “What shall I render unto the Lord for all of His benefits toward me” (Psalm 116:12) ? We may observe two elements in this question. The psalmist acknowledges having received many benefits, or blessings, at the hand of the Lord. For the believer, to be the receiver of blessings from the Lord is a fact beyond question. That is one facet of a proper perception of reality. However, for the unbeliever, or even for the nominal believer, such things come in the course of nature, or as a matter of deserving them. But to fail to see that such benefits and blessings come from the Lord is to lose touch with reality. The other element of the question is that the writer expresses a sense of obligation to the Lord and reveals a desire to do something in response to the amazing goodness of God to him. It is the reflex of the godly heart to desire to do something in response to the perceived go...
