Isaiah 6:1-4 "In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. (2) Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. (3) And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. (4) And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke."
Yesterday, we saw the Lord sitting in authority even after the earthly king had
died. His glory and majestic greatness is not dependent upon man; rather it is
wholly contained within Himself. Today, we look at "His train filled the
temple." There isn't much to be known concerning the "train".
When I looked up the word, it means "to hang down; a skirt; by implication
a bottom edge." After thinking about that for a moment, I remembered
when God showed Himself to Moses. What part was he able to see? God passed
before Moses "And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my
back parts: but my face shall not be seen." (Exodus 33:23) Moses was only
able to see a portion of God's glory and yet that was enough to encourage him
to continue. Isaiah saw the "hem or bottom edge" of the Lord
and yet it was enough to motivate him as we will see tomorrow.
Above that "train", or bottom edge, stood the seraphims crying
"Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of hosts." At different times in the
past year, I have been able to look out over the mountains, the sea, and the
flat prairie land. I have looked into blue skies and have also seen fierce
angry skies filled with dark clouds. In each scene, I have been able to
recognize the very glory of God as the messengers of God spoke to my heart,
crying out "Holy, Holy, Holy! ... the whole earth is full of His
glory." "The posts of the door" of my heart has been moved
even though I was only able to see a portion of God's glory. To borrow a
phrase, "I can only imagine what it will be" when I am able to see
Him face to face in all His glory. But for now, I am so thankful for the times
He allows me to see His "back parts", His "train that fills this
temple of my life. I want to join with the angels as they praise His holy name!
"Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts!"
