Proverbs 31:10-12 "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. (11) The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. (12) She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
It is said that the man is the head of the house, but the wife is the neck that
turns the head. It is no accident that the book of Proverbs ends with the
thoughts concerning the virtuous woman. The word, virtuous, in this
passage means a force of strength. The root word for force means to whirl or
spiral. It carries the meaning of being able to move with force as a tornado.
The difference in this meaning is that a tornado brings destruction whereas a
virtuous woman moves in a positive direction and gets things done. I mean
no offense to the men, but as a pastor I have seen many times that the
"sisters" of the church are the ones who get things done. "The
heart of her husband doth safely trust in her." I know Solomon had many
wives and concubines. I don't understand how he was persuaded to do that, but
maybe he was looking for that virtuous woman that would move his life in the
right direction. I'm not discounting the power of God to move him, but there
seemed to be something missing in his life and he was looking to find the cure
for it. He knew what to look for, but could not find it outside of God. That's
true for all of us. The only cure for the emptiness within our lives is found
in the Lord. But God has ordained a man and woman to join in marriage to
enhance that love for each other. Read the remainder of the chapter to
see the works of the virtuous woman, but here is the conclusion of the matter:
"... a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised."
