Isaiah 10:20-21 "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God."
We saw in the first chapter of this book that Isaiah
prophesied during the reign of several kings. One of those kings was Ahaz. He
was perhaps one of the most wicked kings to every reign in Judah. He made idols
and placed them throughout the city of Jerusalem. He cut to pieces various
vessels in the temple. He drew people away from true worship by building high
places where they could go into the groves and privately sacrifice to those
idols.
By reading the books of Daniel, Ezra, and Nehemiah, we know that God allowed
His people to return to Jerusalem after 70 years of captivity. The temple and
the wall were rebuilt by this remnant of people who were allowed to return.
There is no doubt that this mercy was at the hands of the Almighty God, the
Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. There could have been no other way for
this great feat to have been accomplished. Isaiah prophesied that this remnant
of people would once again place their complete trust and confidence in the
Lord. My thought today concerns this trust and confidence. Would it not have
been better for the people if they had placed their trust in the Lord before
all the destruction was done? They blindly followed Ahaz into spiritual
darkness instead of walking in the light of the Lord. My prayer for
America in our day is that we will walk with the Lord in the light of His Word.
Trust and Obey
by John H. Sammis
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
