Daily Devotion: Isaiah 9:6 (4)

Isaiah 9:6    "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace."

I feel it is very important as we look at these names given to our Lord that we think of them in terms of the first three words of this verse: "For unto us..."

"For unto us... His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor." The Lord has brought us into a very precious relationship that is far above all others. Because of our relationship with Him, we can have a stronger relationship with our spouse, our children, our family and friends. Our relationship with Him enriches everything else in our lives. It is through our relationship with Him that we can endure every struggle in life. This relationship is by His amazing, saving grace; yet, you and I need to work on this relationship every single day. It is not something we can just take for granted. We can't place it on the shelf and bring it down when we feel the need for His help. We are to nurture our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Without that nurturing, we will be very hesitant to bring our thoughts, cares, and troubles to Him. He is indeed our Wonderful Counsellor, but we must practice His presence in our lives through prayer and studying His Word. I say that because I assure you He will never give us counsel that is outside the realm and authority of His written Word. He will never instruct us to do something that goes against that which was written. For if He were to do so, He would be going against His very own nature - and He will not do that. His Word teaches us that God cannot lie. See Titus chapter 1, verse 2. As we go through the book of Isaiah, we will see ways in which the Lord converses with us. But for now, we need to just ponder the blessed truth that He is the greatest Counsellor and source of all wisdom. It may be that we need to relearn the art of talking to Him and then simply being still to wait for His answer to us.  "For unto us... For unto you... For unto me... He is the Wonderful Counsellor." Thank you Jesus.

Daily Devotion: Colossians 1:25-26

Colossians 1:25-26    “Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  Even   the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:” In verse twenty-four, Paul has expressed his joy in bearing hardship for the church. It is of this church, the body of Jesus Christ, that he is made a minister. Since Paul used the phrase “made a minister” in verse twenty-three of this same chapter, it seems there is something important that he wishes to convey. The Greek word translated as “made” means “to cause to be.” It was the will of God (Col 1:1) that caused Paul to become a minister. God is always the cause of true ministry. Although our fathers may be ministers, if we become true ministers of the gospel it is  not  because our fathers are ministers. True ministers of the gospel do not take that path because they seek honor for themselves, or b...

Daily Devotion: Exodus 7:6-10

Exodus 7:6-10    "And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent." Moses and Aaron had begun to doubt whether they were right for the job the LORD had given them. Here, it is evident that God granted them a renewal of their faith. Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them. In my opinion, all truly successful outcomes in our lives begin with this. Moses and Aaron were not young men. Moses was eighty years old, and Aaron was eighty-three years old. Still,...
