Daily Devotion: Exodus 23:23-27

Exodus 23:23-27     "For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off. Thou shalt not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but thou shalt utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images. And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil. I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee."

God has promised us that we would not be without a Leader. The Messenger of God goes before us, having been tempted in all points even as we are (Hebrews 4:15). Every enemy that we will ever face, physically, emotionally, or spiritually, God has promised to cut off from us. This phrase “cut off” can mean to destroy, and it can also mean to hide.

Our Savior hides (shields) us from many things in our lives. Even when trouble comes, He is there with the peace that passes all understanding. We may have sorrow, but we do not sorrow as others that have no hope. Our lives are hidden with Christ in God.

As those who know the Messenger of the LORD, we are to follow Him faithfully. Every false god needs to be removed from our lives. They are not to be merely packed away and put out of sight. They are to be thrown down and destroyed.

Surely God word is true! He has blessed us with the Bread of Life. He has given us a Fountain of Living Water. Sin and death have been destroyed from our midst, all through the LORD’s Angel whom He sent for our sakes.

Beloved, when our enemies turn their backs to us it means only one thing. They are running the other way. No matter what enemies we may find in this world, remember that Jesus said He has overcome the world. In Him, we are hidden from doubt and despair. We are more than conquerors through Him that loves us!

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
