Daily Devotion: Exodus 23:28-33

Exodus 23:28-33     "And I will send hornets before thee, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before thee. I will not drive them out from before thee in one year; lest the land become desolate, and the beast of the field multiply against thee. By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land. And I will set thy bounds from the Red sea even unto the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert unto the river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand; and thou shalt drive them out before thee. Thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. They shall not dwell in thy land, lest they make thee sin against me: for if thou serve their gods, it will surely be a snare unto thee."

God is actively involved in the defense of His people. He declares here that He will send (deliberate action) hornets to drive out the enemy. He declares that they “shall” drive out the enemy. There is no ambiguity here: God will send His defense, and it will be successful.

Wouldn’t it be nice if all our enemies were removed from our path in one blow? Life would surely be more pleasant for us if all doubt and fear were gone. Why does God remove our enemies from before us little by little? The simple answer is because our God is wise.

If all our enemies were removed at once, we would soon forget where our help came from. In His mercy, God removes them little by little so that we might grow (be increased) in our faith in Him. As we grow, we are able to lay hold on our inheritance in God’s kingdom here. By His guiding hand, we grow without losing our knowledge of how much we need a Deliverer.

We cannot be in league with the enemies God drives out of our lives. The love of carnal things must be daily brought under subjection to our love for God. They cannot dwell in our land (lives) without compromising our service to Him. The LORD assures us that they will be a snare unto us.

Beloved, whatever enemies you face today, be patient and wait on the LORD. He will send deliverance in a way that will allow you to grow in grace and knowledge. Do not compromise with the enemy. Trust God to do what He says He will do.

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
