Isaiah 40:8 "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."
There is beauty to be seen in all four seasons of the year. I admit my two
favorite seasons are Spring and Fall. I love to see the new leaves and flowers
blooming. I love to see the grass becoming green again. The warmth of the sun
makes the bones feel better. Yes, my age is catching up with me. In the
Spring, I feel the power of the resurrection as I see life coming from what was
seemingly dead. Then in the Fall, I love seeing the colors forming on the
trees. There is something majestic about the orange, red, and brown colors that
capture the trees. The heat is becoming lower and it feels nice to be outside
again. Though those are my two favorite seasons, there are also beauties to be
seen in Summer and Winter. I admit the heat and the cold do not always
agree with me. I can't take it as well as I once could. But nevertheless, all
four seasons have their own beauty.
As I look out the window this morning, I see the grass is brown and all the
leaves are gone from the trees. There are those evergreen trees that still have
the greenery and the Camelia had red blossoms on it recently. But for the most
part, it seems drab. As the sun begins to go lower in the sky, the temperatures
begin to get cooler and cooler. I promise this is not just a Biology lesson; yet,
the Lord used those things to show us great things. It was not very long ago
that the flowers were in full bloom and the grass was fully green, but not now.
My point in all this is that there is constant change. There is change in the
seasons of the year and there is change in the seasons of our lives. There is
change from day to day and sometimes even from one minute to the next. We learn
to cope with change. The grass withers. The flower fades. "BUT the Word of
our God shall stand for ever." His word never changes because our God
never changes. There is that one constant upon which we can base our lives and
find direction in which to cope with all the other changes. We do ourselves a
great injustice when we neglect the Word of God. January 2nd would be a wonderful
time to begin the practice of reading our Bibles each day. That would be time
well spent, even if it is for 10 minutes. It is the constant by which we can
find comfort and assurance.
