Daily Devotion: Isaiah 42:10-12

Isaiah 42:10-12      "Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof.  (11)  Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.  (12)  Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands."

Would you agree with me that there is something very special when the Lord's praise rises up from our hearts and across our lips? A true worship service leaves its mark on God's people when the Spirit of the Lord manifests Himself unto us. Paul wrote to the church at Corinth, "I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." (1 Corinthians 14:15) It is by the Holy Spirit of God that we are truly able to "sing unto the LORD a new song." If I may use a personal example.  When I was a boy, I dreaded someone calling out the number for Amazing Grace. It seemed there were 15 verses and they would always sing every verse. And they would sing it very slow. But one day, that great song became a "new song" for me. The Lord opened my understanding of my need for His Amazing Saving Grace in my own life. I realized I was that wretch thaI was blind and could not see. There are many new songs that are coming out every day. I must admit there are some that speak to my heart and others that I can do without. But when I am singing with the Spirit in my heart, those words become very meaningful to me as the glory of the Lord is proclaimed.

We read in Revelation 5:9, "And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation." The new song that we, as children of God, must sing is one that declares the worthiness of our Lord of our praise. I would close today with this thought: When the Lord puts a song in your heart, sing it with all your might. Sing it with the Spirit. Sing it unto the Lord. Saints go on to sing, "Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing." (Revelation 5:12)  Sing it loud. Sing it to the Lord. Make a joyful noise unto the Lord all ye lands!

Daily Devotion: Enter With Thanksgiving - Psalm 100:1-5

One of the most beautiful Psalms of Thanksgiving is the 100th Psalm. Please turn to it and read verses one through five. With all my heart I believe we are a people and a nation that has truly been blessed by God. Of all those who “give thanks to Him and praise His name” we should be at the top!  It is not uncommon to compile wish lists at Christmas, and draw up a list of resolutions for the new year. But there is another list we often overlook - a Thanksgiving Day list of all for which we are thankful. What would your list contain? Most likely, a good part would be material possessions. I’m convinced that we would find that we have much more for which to be thankful than just our material possessions.  Like you, I’m sure my list would include the major things - life, health, family, friends, and the nation we live in, despite all its flaws. But even more than that, I’m thankful for my salvation, my Church family, and the mercy that God showers upon us each d...

Daily Devotion: Psalm 100:4-5 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 100:4-5     "Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  (5)  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." Many songs have been written about these verses and with these words included. What do they mean? Today, we celebrate the holiday of Thanksgiving. I've listened to many people speak about their family traditions and most of them include family, food, and football. These are wonderful and fun things that enrich the day, but is it the true meaning that was intended when the day was established?  The Psalmist instructed us to include a special action with our words of thankfulness.  We are to "enter into HIS gates." The heartfelt words of thanksgiving allow us to enter the gates of the Lord, but there is a much deeper place into which we can go. Not only are we to enter into HIS gates, but He invites us to come much closer to H...
